It will soon be possible to procure Azure, Office 365, Dynamics 365 and many other Microsoft solutions from Switzerland: Microsoft is opening two data centres in Zurich and Geneva creating the Swiss cloud region.
These data centres will open many doors for Swiss companies on the road to digital transformation. Cloud services are of particular interest to companies, the public sector and NGOS as they work with sensitive data and need to meet regulations connected to security, compliance, data protection and transparency.
To start with, Microsoft will provide only a reduced offering before gradually adding additional services. Azure Infrastructure-as-a-Service (compute/VMs, networking, storage, back-up) and a part of the Platform-as-a-Service (Azure SQL DB, Cosmos DB) will be available from Day 1. These will be followed by Office 365 3 to 6 months later and Dynamics 365 around 6 to 12 months after the launch. An overview of all planned services can be viewed here. (In German, netzwoche.ch).
On Thursday, 29 August 2019, Microsoft will be holding a live stream, introducing the new data centres. On this day, news, background details and Azure customer cases will be presented from Zurich, Bern and Geneva.
